Jacksonville, FL : 4-month-old baby died after a hit-and-run crash on Saturday night October 18th 2014
A 4-month-old baby died after a hit-and-run crash Saturday night.
Otha Williams said he sat by his son's side for hours at UF Health Jacksonville until Otha Junior lost his fight before 2 a.m. Williams’ primary focus now is an arrest.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash that happened on Stockton Street at Irene Street, which is near Interstate 10.
A Chevrolet truck ran a red light and hit the vehicle head-on at the intersection.
Williams said his son was in the car seat, but he wasn’t strapped in.
JSO said there was an infant carrier or car seat found in the vehicle, but are not sure where the car seat was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Police say the child was not strapped into the carrier and that the carrier was not installed into the vehicle.
"He was a happy baby, man. He barely cried," said Williams.
Police said the truck did not stop and went to a house nearby. Officers are now talking to the owner of that truck.
Williams wants an arrest, and some closure.
JSO said an arrest has not been made. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
