Florence, OR : Waldport man was killed and another man was injured in a head-on crash at Highway 101 On Sunday, August 7th, 2016

A 92-year-old Waldport man was killed and another man was injured in a head-on crash north of Florence.

The crash occurred at about 8:45 a.m. Sunday on Highway 101 near milepost 174, according to Oregon State Police.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Honda CRV, driven by 92-year-old Eugene Earl Weigant of Waldport was traveling northbound when it crossed the center line and struck a 1994 Chevrolet Imperial van, which

was driven by 23-year-old Tanner Benjamin Dickinson of Columbus, Ohio.

Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage.

Weigant was transported to Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence, where he died from his injuries. Dickinson was also transported to Peace Harbor Hospital and was treated for minor injuries and later released.

One lane of Highway 101 was closed for about four hours while police conducted their investigation. Central Coast Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation also assisted in the investigation.
