A 19-year-old West Point man was one of two people killed in a crash on Highway 16 in Amador County early Friday morning.

Ayden Garcia, a Class of 2015 Calaveras High School graduate, and Devi Prasad of Sacramento, both sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

According to a release by the Amador County office of the California Highway Patrol, just after 12:30 a.m. Friday, Garcia was eastbound on Highway 16 just west of Long Gate Road at an undetermined speed at the same time Prasad and two passengers were westbound at 65 mph. For reasons unknown, the two vehicles collided head-on killing both drivers. The passengers in Prasad’s car were transported for treatment via helicopter, one suffering major injuries the other minor injuries.

Garcia was a state meet qualifier for the Calaveras High School wrestling team as a senior in 2015 and wrestled for Northern State University in South Dakota this past school year.

“Ayden was a great kid who had extremely strong values and morals,” Calaveras High School wrestling coach Vince Bicocca said.

“He was a hard worker who led by example. His goal his senior year was to be a state qualifier and he was able to accomplish that goal by having the tournament of his life at the (Sac-Joaquin Section) Masters. He loved wrestling and spent his winter break working out with the high school team helping younger wrestlers improve. Ayden was a wonderful young man who will be greatly missed.”
