Hammond, LA : A three-vehicle crash on Saturday, June 17, 2017
Loranger resident Geza Ray Kovach Jr., 32, was killed early Saturday morning in a three-vehicle crash.
Louisiana State Police said Kovach was traveling northbound on I55 on a 2005 Kawaski motorcycle. They believe the motorcycle crashed due to tire failure about 1:48 a.m.
Still dark out, the motorcycle was then struck by a 1978 Chevorlet Monte Carlo driven by 52-year-old Kenney Ray Rovers, of Magnolia, Miss.
The motorcyclist was hit by a 2012 Kia driven Sherry Lynn May, 36, of Bogue Chitto, Miss.
Investigators said Rovers and May were not injured in the crashes.
Although impairment is not suspected as a contributing factor, State police collected blood samples for further analysis at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
According to a statement on Saturday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports motorcyclist deaths occurred 27 times more frequently than fatalities in other vehicles. This information is based on crash data in 2014.
