Berthoud, CO : Camper van vs. bicycle crash on northbound U.S. 287 as it intersects with County Road 17, or Berthoud Parkway on Wednesday, 1st August 2018

A camper van collided with a 13-year-old boy on a bicycle in Berthoud Wednesday afternoon, sending him to the hospital with serious injuries.

The collision occurred on northbound U.S. 287 as it intersects with County Road 17, or Berthoud Parkway around 11:30 a.m., according to a release from Larimer County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Jered Kramer. Kramer said that the 13-year-old's condition is critical but stable as of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling (CRASH) team from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office determined that the 13-year-old had been hit by a 2007 Chevrolet van as it was heading northbound on 287. The cyclist was headed southbound on Berthoud Parkway.

The van contained a man and a woman from Longmont, both of whom were not injured in the crash.
