Shenandoah Junction, W.V : Harpers Ferry man dies after collision on Flowing Springs Road Wednesday morning, October 26, 2016
Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia
A two-car accident on Flowing Springs Road Wednesday morning has left a Harpers Ferry man dead.
Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Dougherty said Raymond Whalen, of Harpers Ferry, was turning left off Job Corps Road onto Flowing Springs Road at about 7:40 a.m. Wednesday. According to Dougherty, as Whalen turned onto Flowing Springs Road, his vehicle was struck near the driver’s-side door by a 17-year-old driver heading toward Jefferson High School.
Whalen was ejected from the vehicle, Dougherty said. Both vehicles went off the road and damaged a nearby power pole; however, electric service in the area was not affected.
Whalen was taken to Jefferson Medical Center for injuries sustained in the accident, where he later died. The 17-year-old was not seriously injured, Dougherty said.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation, Dougherty said.
“We don’t know whether Mr. Whalen pulled out improperly; we don’t know whether the kid was speeding,” the sheriff said.
No further information was available as of press time Wednesday night.
