A Lorain resident suffered multiple injuries Wednesday night when her motorcycle was struck from behind while traveling on Interstate 77 in Guernsey County.

Rebecca Cain, age unavailable, was transported by United Ambulance to Southeastern Med in Cambridge where she was treated in the emergency department. The extent of Cain’s injuries was not available from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

It is believed Cain was treated in the emergency department and later released. A nursing supervisor with the hospital said no patient matching that name was still hospitalized as of press time.

The driver of the other vehicle failed to stop at the accident scene.

A sergeant with the highway patrol’s Cambridge post, said Cain was southbound on I-77 near mile post 52 when her motorcycle was struck from behind by another vehicle at approximately 8:15 p.m.

The impact caused Cain to lose control of the motorcycle which overturned and slid off the roadway onto the berm. The motorcycle reportedly struck a guardrail along the interstate after Cain was ejected.

Cain was not able to get a description of the vehicle that struck her motorcycle. No witnesses stopped at the scene, according to the highway patrol.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has knowledge of the incident is asked to call the patrol’s Cambridge post, 740-439-1388.

The motorcycle sustained extensive damage.

It was not known as of press time if Cain was wearing a helmet.

The accident remained under investigation by the highway patrol.
