Kentwood , MI :Mandeville couple killed in I-10 crash in Slidell on Sunday , June 14th 2015

A Mandeville couple died Sunday (June 14) after an 18-wheeler struck their car from behind on Interstate 10 in Slidell, according to State Police.George Wells, 82 and his wife, Jean, 80, died from injuries suffered in the crash, troopers said. Both were wearing seat belts.The couple's death was one of two fatal car crashes Sunday, troopers reported. Patricia Gill, 80, also died in a collision in Kentwood.According to State Police, the Wellses were traveling at a "slow rate of speed" east on I-10 around 11:30 a.m. George Wells was driving. Bruno Palacios, of Texas, drove his truck up behind the couple and "for reasons still under investigation," rammed into the back of their Toyota Corolla and sent it caroming into the median.Palacio's truck flipped, blocking the farthest left westbound lane. He wasn't injured in the crash and troopers said they don't suspect he was impaired.The collision is still under investigation and Palacios is likely to face criminal charges, troopers said.
