Lynnwood, WA : Two children dead after a three-car crash on I-5 on Friday afternoon, February 3, 2017
Two children are dead after a three-car crash Friday afternoon on I-5 near the 164th Street exit.
Four more people were taken to area hospitals. Three others involved in the collision were not injured.
The vehicles were heading north on I-5. The two in front, a minivan and a sedan, reportedly slowed or stopped for traffic ahead of them. A pick-up truck reportedly collided with the minivan and pushed it into the sedan, according to the Washington State Patrol.
A 12-year-old girl from Everett died at the scene. A 2-year-old girl, also from Everett, died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Two boys, ages 5 and 7, were taken to Harborview. Their injuries were serious but did not appear to be life-threatening, Washington State Patrol Trooper Heather Axtman said.
The children all were passengers in the minivan. The driver of the vehicle, a 43-year-old man, and one adult passenger, a 39-year-old woman, were taken to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett with injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening.
“It’s extremely sad and a very unfortunate collision,” Axtman said. “Our thoughts are with family.”
The driver of the pick-up, a 51-year-old man from Lake Stevens, was not injured. A 52-year-old Federal Way woman driving the sedan and one passenger also were not hurt.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Axtman said.
The crash happened at 3:17 p.m. and backed up traffic on I-5 for miles.
