A Friedens man was killed Tuesday night in a vehicle versus pedestrian crash in Stonycreek Township, state police in Somerset said.
Brian James Wright, 24, of Friedens was fatally injured when he walked onto Lambertsville Road and was struck by an all-terrain vehicle moving at a "high rate of speed," according to a release from state police.
Police said Ashton Vaughn Danton, 21, of Stoystown was driving the ATV north on the road.
After the collision, Danton's vehicle came to rest in a wooded area west of the road. Wright was in the middle of the road and was deceased at the scene, the release said.
Danton, who had moderate injuries, was flown by medical helicopter to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, police said.
Fire crews from Stoystown and Shanksville assisted at the scene as well as ambulance crews from Boswell and Somerset.
Police said the crash remains under investigation.
