Hendersonville, North Carolina
A single-vehicle wreck killed two teenagers in Transylvania County Sunday night, and the driver of the vehicle may face charges, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Cole Owen, 15, a rising sophomore at Rosman High and Austin Rhoden, 15, a rising freshman at Brevard High were killed while riding in a pickup truck along Tanassee Gap Road in Balsam Grove when the truck lost control and overturned, according to Sgt. Chris Goodson with the Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred Sunday night at around 7:30. Owen and Rhoden were among five individuals riding in a 1994 Toyota Tacoma driven by a 19-year-old.
Two people were in the cab, while three were riding in the bed of the truck. Owen was in the front passenger seat and not wearing a seat belt, Goodson said. Rhoden was among the three riding in the bed of the truck.
Goodson said the truck was exceeding the posted speed limit when it entered a right turn, lost control and over-corrected before the truck overturned.
