Uvalde-bound SUV strikes hog, oncoming motorist on FM 481
Uvalde residents Ruby Garza and Julia Vasquez, and off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent Antonio Cordova of the Uvalde Station, were killed Christmas night following a head-on collision on Farm-to-Market Road 481.
The wreck occurred at 11:50 p.m., 25 miles southwest of Uvalde. Farm-to-Market Road 481 is often called Old Eagle Pass Road.
The Texas Department of Public Safety’s preliminary investigation shows that Garza, driving a Ford Expedition, struck a wild hog on the roadway. The collision caused her to enter the southbound lane of travel and strike a 2011 Mercedes SUV head-on.
Cordova, a 27-year-old USBP agent assigned to the agency’s Uvalde station, was the driver and sole occupant of the Mercedes SUV. Cordova was returning home to Eagle Pass after a work shift.
