NASHVILLE, TN : MNPD investigate fatal crash on I-24 on May, Saturday 6th 2017
Metro Nashville Police Department are investigating a fatal crash that happened Saturday morning.
Police charged Earl Ali, 35, of Clarksville with vehicular homicide by intoxication, vehicular assault, and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
The accident happened on interstate 24 at mile marker 33.
The Emergency Communications Center received a call about a serious crash involving a white Chevrolet Impala at 1:16 a.m.
The Impala struck a guardrail killing the driver Lonnie Bumpus, 47, of Cunningham, Tennessee.
The driver’s wife who was the passenger, Kisha Bumpus, 40, received minor injuries.
Officers noticed there was another vehicle involved in the collision after viewing the scene.
There was red paint on the white Impala and major damage to the rear.
A witness in a semi-truck, told officers he was almost hit by a speeding red Dodge Magnum.
The description of the car was relayed to surrounding law enforcement agencies.
Officers later learned that a trooper had stopped a red Dodge Magnum traveling at 99 mph on I-24 in Montgomery County.
A MNPD officer drove to the scene of the Montgomery County stop and saw that the Magnum had damage and white paint on it.
According to officials Ali, the driver of the Magnum, smelled strongly of alcohol.
Ali was returned to Nashville where a search warrant and a blood sample was abstained.
At this point the investigation shows that the Impala was struck from behind by the Magnum.
The impact caused the Impala to hit the guardrail.
