MANATEE, FL : Two people were injured in a two-vehicle wreck on Thursday, August 17, 2017
Two people were injured in a two-vehicle wreck Thursday afternoon that shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 75 for more than two hours at the J.D. Young Bridge over the Manatee River in Bradenton.
At 12:20 p.m. Thursday, Florida Highway Patrol Troopers were dispatched to the crash at mile marker 224 on the Young bridge. All southbound lanes were shut down as a result, but traffic was passing slowly in the emergency lanes, according to FHP’s live traffic feed.
According to a FHP release, a freight truck in the right southbound lane began to slow down due to slower traffic ahead. Another freight truck traveling behind it failed to slow down and struck the rear of the first truck. The driver and passenger in the first freight truck sustained minor injuries, were treated at a hospital and released, according to FHP.
Traffic was backed up for more than four miles, traffic cameras showed. The Green and Desoto bridges were also backed up into Palmetto with traffic heading south to Bradenton, according to police.
