EUSTIS, FL : 1 killed, 1 hurt as wrong-way pickup truck hits motorcycle in Lake County on Friday, 1st November 2024
A 20-year-old Umatilla man riding a motorcycle through Eustis was killed late Friday when he was hit by a pickup truck that was traveling the wrong way, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred just before midnight on State Road 44, troopers said, giving Hammond Lane as the nearest cross street.
According to an FHP crash report, the 20-year-old was one of two men who were riding motorcycles eastbound on S.R. 44. He was riding a 2024 Harley-Davidson Sportster while the other motorcyclist — a 41-year-old Umatilla man — was riding a 2003 Suzuki VL800K, the report states.
The pickup truck, driven by a 49-year-old Eustis man, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of S.R. 44 when its front struck the front of the Harley, troopers said.
