The community of Elizabethtown is still healing from the tragic death of a popular softball player, killed by an accused drunken driver.Exactly a week later, tragedy hit the same family again.Brianna Taylor's brother, Brice Taylor, is now fighting for his life at University Hospital after a freak accident.Kentucky State Police said Brice Taylor, 20, was riding his ATV on Springfield Road just of Elizabethtown, when he hit a deer around 12:30 a.m. Monday. Police said Taylor was thrown off the vehicle and the ATV overturned in a ditch.
"Most folks are in complete shock. Sort of a common statement you keep hearing is, that people are just at a loss for words," said Josh Brown, the family's pastor at Valley Creek Baptist Creek.
It's a heartbreaking case of deja vu for the Hardin County family: a crash, an emergency flight to University Hospital and a fight for life.
"People are still mourning and just grieving over Brianna and now this," Brown said.Last Sunday, Brianna Taylor, 17, a softball star and recent Elizabethtown High graduate, drove home on Patriot Parkway with her friend, Mickayla Harig.
Police said Michael Todd Hilton was under the influence when he ran a stop sign and collided with her car.
Brianna Taylor died the next day. Her friend remains in critical condition.Brown said Brice Taylor was returning home from a small get-together to remember his sister."What we've been trying to share with folks and to communicate with folks is pray for the family, pray for Brice," Brown said.Brice Taylor's accident happened just steps away from Valley Creek Baptist Church.
