SPRINGFIELD, MO : 2 injured in accident at Springfield's Southwest Water Treatment Plant on Monday, 11th February 2019

The city of Springfield confirms two contracted workers suffered injuries at the Southwest Water Treatment Plant.

The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. Springfield Fire Department Chief David Pennington says these were contracted workers doing work on a large tank at the wastewater treatment facility.

Investigators say as they worked on the solid waste tank, a torch ignited methane gas from it. The workers jumped off the roof of the tank from about 15 feet high.

Chief Pennington says he believes the injuries are not life-threatening. The two remain hospitalized.
