Middletown, CT : Geoffey Morgan, 29, injured after a motorcycle and sedan collided on Route 66 in Middletown on Tuesday afternoon, Nov 17, 2015
Washington Street was closed from Main to High streets throughout much of the afternoon Tuesday as police investigated a serious collision between a motorcycle and a car that took place at 3 p.m.
Police say Geoffey Morgan, 29, of Middletown, was riding a 2015 Victory motorcycle making its way west on Washington Street approaching Pearl in the eastbound lane. The traffic report says Morgan was passing stopped vehicles in the westbound lanes.
James Woodcock, 53, of Hartford, was driving a Nissan Maxima north on Pearl, and when he tried to cross Washington Street, his car collided with the bike. He was not injured.
Morgan was rushed to Hartford Hospital by Hunters’ Ambulance following the crash, which occurred near St. Sebastian Church.
The force of the collision sheared off the front end of the tan Nissan Maxima and scattered parts from the motorcycle up to 30 feet from where the two vehicles came to rest.
The jet black bike was upright following the crash and appeared to be fused to the right front end of the car, which bore New York license plates.
As paramedics and fire personnel struggled to help the motorcyclist, a LifeStar medical helicopter was called in.
But once Morgan was freed, ambulance officials determined they could get the victim to Hartford Hospital before the helicopter could arrive.
Motorists were diverted from the accident scene, causing traffic delays as far away as lower College and Broad streets.
That stretch of Route 66, known as Washington Street, is the frequent site of accidents. Tuesday’s crash took place less than 90 minutes before sunset, during a period when the sun’s glare impedes motorists’ visibility the most.
The extent of Morgan’s injuries are not known.
