Gainesville, FL : UF student injured in crash involved a motorcycle and a car on Archer Road on Monday, March 20, 2017
A motorcyclist is in critical condition after a traffic crash Monday in front of UF Health Shands Hospital.
The crash, which happened around 11:45 a.m., involved a motorcycle and a car, according to officials with the Gainesville Police Department.
Joe Steven Vincent Wagner, a Gainesville resident and University of Florida student, was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle east on Archer Road. Glory Edith Jackson, 71, was driving a Buick sedan west on Archer Road and made a left onto Newell Drive, driving into Wagner's path.
Police are investigating which driver had the right of way.
Wagner, 23, was not wearing a helmet. He was in critical condition as of Monday afternoon.
An emergency room doctor was outside in the area when the crash happened and gave aid until emergency medical services could transport the motorcyclist inside.
GPD said excessive speed did not appear to be a factor.
Archer Road at Southwest 13th Street reopened to westbound traffic at about 1:40 p.m.
