A 36-year-old Starke man died in a traffic crash in Bradford County Thursday evening, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Alphonso Pernell was driving a 2005 Chevy Impala south on State Road 21 just south of Southeast 31st Street just before 7 p.m., an FHP corporal reported in a news release.

Pernell was driving faster than the posted speed limit and lost control of the car, which hit a fence, then a tree, troopers said. He died at UF Health Shands of Starke.
