PRINCETON, NJ : Six vehicle chain-reaction crash reported near Princeton on Tuesday, 9th October 2018
One person was transported Monday to a local hospital after six vehicles had a chain-reaction crash in the westbound lanes of U.S. Route 460 near Princeton.
The crash was reported about 1:38 p.m. to Mercer County 911. Initially no injuries were reported after the collisions on Crumpecker Hill, but rescue squads were dispatched after law enforcement and firefighters arrived on the scene. A vehicle leaking fuel was also reported.
Traffic continued moving west on Route 460 after the six vehicles pulled off. Deputy D.A. Calloway with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, said one person was transported to a local hospital, but did not know the extent of the injuries.
Calloway said the six vehicles were all taking a detour off Interstate 77 and traveling down Route 460 to John Nash Boulevard. The optional detour was put in place when contractors for the West Virginia Department of Transportation started repaving I-77’s southbound lanes from Princeton at Exit 9 to Bluefield at Exit 1 outside the East River Mountain Tunnel. Tractor-trailers stay on I-77 unless they have to make connections. Vehicles from West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina were in the crash.
