Provo man dies after Wayne County motorcycle crash

A Provo man died Saturday of injuries he suffered in a motorcycle crash a week earlier.Utah Highway Patrol troopers said Duane Nelson, 51, was riding his motorcycle about two miles west of Hanksville with a group bikers, including Jason Gale, 35, of Syracuse, and Dean Smith, 41, of Layton, about 6:40 p.m. on Sept. 28 when the crash occurred.Troopers said Smith bumped Gale, who was one of the lead motorcyclists, causing him to crash. Nelson then struck Gale’s downed motorcycle, causing him to overturn.Nelson suffered head trauma and was flown to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. He died Saturday.Troopers said the setting sun caused a glare and decreased visibility for the cyclists. Everyone was wearing helmets and other safety gear.
