KALAMAZOO, MI : Westnedge Ave. closed for hours after tanker crash on Wednesday, August 30, 2017

S. Westnedge Avenue in Kalamazoo was shut down for nearly seven hours Wednesday after a tanker rolled over, blocking all four lanes of traffic.The crash happened around 3:31 p.m. near the Inkster Avenue intersection.

Witnesses told police a southbound car crossed the center lane, hitting the tanker truck. The truck then began to roll, colliding with a third vehicle, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

One person suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, officers said.

S. Westnedge Avenue was shut down in both directions. Crews said they would bring in another truck from Northern Michigan to transfer the wrecked tanker’s contents. They then righted the tanker truck. The road reopened around 10:20 p.m.
