Council Bluffs, IA : Two people that were killed in a crash at Lake Manawa on Friday, October, 27th 2017
Police have identified the two people that were killed in a crash at Lake Manawa early Friday morning.
Efren Lemus, 18, and Christian Renteria-Perez, 17, were found inside the vehicle, which authorities found upside down and partially submerged at West Shore Drive at Pelican Drive at Lake Manawa in Council Bluffs, according to a release.
Both individuals were students at Abraham Lincoln High School.
Police said Lemus was driving the vehicle and Renteria-Perez was the passenger.
The Council Bluffs Community School District issued a statement Friday regarding the deaths of the students:
"The Council Bluffs Community School District is grieving the death of two students today following a tragic accident. Christian Renteria Perez was a student at Abraham Lincoln High School, and Efren Lemus Lara was a student at Abraham Lincoln High School, attending Kanesville Alternative Learning Center. This is shocking and heartbreaking for their families, friends and our entire school community. Counselors are providing support to our students in need during this sad time. We will keep their families in our hearts and prayers."
Police are investigating alcohol and speed as contributing factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
