MILWAUKEE, WI : 1 dead following morning crash near 5th and Keefe on Thursday, 29th June 2023

Milwaukee police are investigating a fatal crash near 5th and Keefe, where a 23-year-old Milwaukee driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree.

The crash reportedly resulted in the death of a 17-year-old Milwaukee girl -- identified by the Milwaukee County medical examiner as Zariyah Williams. Police say she was ejected during the collision, which occurred Friday, June 30 around 5:07 a.m.

MPD says the driver initially fled the scene but later returned and was placed in custody. He and three other passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment, while a fifth passenger was treated at the scene.
