Spirit Lake, IA : Pedestrian struck while crossing street in Dickinson County on Thursday afternoon, May 19, 2016
A woman crossing the street was struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon in Spirit Lake.
According to the Spirit Lake Police Department, the accident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Kathryn Kline, 39, was walking was across the street in accordance with the green light at the intersection of U.S. 71 and 23rd Street. Earl Roger Millikan, 87, of Lake Park, Iowa, was driving a 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup truck north on 23rd Street and had stopped for the light at the same intersection. He then pulled into the intersection, turning onto U.S. 71, and struck Kline, who was pinned under the vehicle and dragged approximately 635 feet down the highway. Another motorist managed to get Millikan’s attention and got him to stop. First responders and others on the scene had to lift the vehicle up to free Kline.
Kline was transported via ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with serious injuries and was airlifted to another hospital. No condition report was available.
Millikan was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk under a green arrow.
