Wichita, KS : One killed and four others injured in traffic collision near 15th and McLean on Monday afternoon, November 14, 2016

One person is dead and four others are injured following a crash Monday afternoon in west Wichita.

The two-vehicle collision occurred around 11:30 a.m. just north of 15th Street and McLean, said Wichita police Lt. Randy Reynolds.

Officials reported one person died as a result of the crash, which involved a pickup truck and a car. One person was in critical condition and another in serious condition while two others received minor injuries.

Three people were in the truck, Reynolds said. Those who survived were taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis for medical treatment.

Police expect the area around the crash site to be closed until sometime Monday evening, according to a tweet from the department.

James Franko, who lives near the crash site, said the stretch of McLean has been home to other accidents and close calls in the past.

“I’ve been in the neighborhood for over 30 years,” Franko said. “This intersection in particular has been known to be relatively dangerous. My wife was even involved in an accident here.

“Cars generally will speed through the intersection or, when there’s somebody coming south and ready to turn onto 15th Street, there’s been a lot of rear-end accidents because people are distracted.”

The car and truck appeared to have hit head-on, leaving the car heavily damaged. Look for more details on Kansas.com as they become available.
