Albany, OR : A surge in deadly driving; Linn County, Albany area see fifth fatal crash in three weeks on Sunday, 3rd June 2018

Linn County and the Albany area saw its fifth fatal motor vehicle crash in just more than three weeks on Sunday, and four of those wrecks have been single-vehicle accidents.

The local trend comes amidst a statewide surge in fatal crashes, said Capt. Tim Fox, Oregon State Police spokesman, who blamed an increase in distracted driving.

Through April, OSP had responded to 20 percent more fatal crashes this year, Fox said, and troopers are concerned. “We don’t have the final stats for May yet, but we’re up in May and we’re obviously up in June,” he added.’
