Two people died in a car crash that nearly took out a Memphis church early Monday morning.
The driver now faces several charges, including vehicular homicide, DUI, and driving without a license.
Police say Terryell Scott, 27, was driving the car when it crashed into the N-Sight Christian Center, located in the 2900 block of Chelsea Avenue, around 12:30 a.m.
First responders rushed Scott to Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Two passengers in the car with him died in the crash.
Police say the vehicle spun out of control, left the street, then hit the building.
Charise Phelps came to N-Sight Christian Center Monday, not for church, but to see what the deadly crash left behind.
Her cousin, Dontae Coleman, was one of the passengers who died in the crash.
"Everybody is sad," Phelps said. "It's just a sad situation. I'm heartbroken."
Family identified the second passenger who died as Marcus Smith.
Scott, who was in critical condition on Monday afternoon, has a lengthy criminal record.
When he recovers, he will have to deal with the criminal charges surrounding the crash. Scott currently faces two counts of vehicular homicide, DUI, driving with a suspended, revoked or cancelled license, reckless driving, public intoxication, and not having insurance.
In the meantime, the family of both victims begin to plan two funerals.
