A 19-year-old former Willow Canyon High School student was killed in a Surprise car crash Monday night.
Alexis Rumer of Surprise died at the scene. She had a male passenger, who is in his 20s, in her vehicle when they were involved in a crash with a man in a pickup truck who is in his 60s.

The Surprise Police Department is currently investigating the two-vehicle collision that occurred at Reems Road and Waddell Road at about 11:00 p.m.

"The incident is still under investigation." said Sgt. Tim Klarkowski, spokesman for Surprise Police. "The subject is currently being investigated for alcohol and/or drug impairment related to his driving."
Mr. Klarkowski said truck driver and the passenger in Ms. Rumer's vehicle were transported to a local Valley hospital.

The Under Review Sports Grill in Surprise where Ms. Rumer worked closed for the day to mourn and had a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The sports grill was packed with family and friends who showed up to remember and mourn Ms. Rumer. Many cried and sobbed.

George Papamatheakis, owner of Under Review, said Ms. Rumer was part of the business a couple of months before they opened.
“This is more than business, this is family," said Mr. Papamatheakis. "She was family to us. Whatever she needed, we would do whatever for her because she is that important to us."
Jeremy Westfall said his family has known her since she was five years old.
His wife, Tammy Westfall, was Ms. Rumer’s Girl Scout Troop Leader for more than 10 years.
“We just got to know her family,” Mr. Westfall added. “She was a very sweet girl, always with good intentions making her own way through life doing her thing."
The Westfall's daughter, Emily, and Ms. Rumer had classes together in elementary school.
“She just had the most positive attitude for working here so long, working here everyday twelve hours a day – that girl works her butt off," said Hunter Coty, a server at Under Review. "She's not just an amazing server, but an amazing person.”
Mr. Papamatheakis also acknowledged Ms. Rumer's work ethic and her friendly, outgoing and bubbly personality.
"Always cared for everybody else, always put others first. Always," said Mr. Papamatheakis. "Just an angel, I love that girl.
“We lost someone so special that words could not explain how amazing she was," he added.
"She was the perfect example of what a woman should be," said Mr. Papamatheakis.
