Two young Fargo children were killed and two people were seriously injured Sunday morning, March 25, in a T-bone collision between an SUV and a semi.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported a 2002 Volvo semitrailer was in the right lane of northbound Interstate 29 at 11:22 a.m. following a 2013 Honda Pilot and other traffic. As the Honda moved into the left lane to pass a vehicle near mile marker 125 about 2 miles north of Reynolds, the driver lost control, and the SUV began to spin on the interstate.
According to the Highway Patrol, the semi driver took evasive action by braking and steering left, but the Honda spun in front of the truck, and the front of the semi struck the passenger side of the SUV.
Authorities said the crash killed 1-year-old and 9-year-old boys who were passengers in the Honda. The two other occupants of the SUV, a 30-year-old female driver and a 3-year-old female passenger, were seriously injured and taken by ambulance to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
The 50-year-old male driver of the semi wasn't injured. All five people involved in the crash are Fargo residents, according to a news release.
The Highway Patrol said the crash that happened during heavy blowing snow and icy conditions remains under investigation. The agency won't release names of the drivers or passengers until Monday night, March 26.
