GROVELAND, CA : 20-year-old Pekin woman killed in crash near Groveland on Tuesday, 10th December, 2019

A Pekin woman died from multiple, blunt-force injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday south of Groveland, according to authorities.

Kaitlyn “Katie” Guard, 20, was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at Springfield Road just north of Broadway Road, Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley stated in a news release issued Wednesday.

The accident happened shortly after 2:30 p.m., according to the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office.

A silver Hyundai Sonata driven by Jesse St. Clair, 45, of Pekin was southbound on Springfield Road when it entered the northbound lane, a sheriff’s news release stated. Guard was driving north in a white Nissan Rogue.

Both vehicles swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision, evidence revealed.

Guard was the only occupant of her vehicle. An autopsy was performed Wednesday. Toxicology is pending.

St. Clair and his female passenger, 48-year-old Lynn St. Clair of Pekin, were transported to a Peoria hospital. She was in critical but stable condition Wednesday.

Jesse St. Clair was in critical condition, according to the sheriff’s office.

The coroner’s and sheriff’s offices were continuing their investigations.
