Newcastle, OK : Northbound H.E. Bailey Turnpike closed at Newcastle Toll Gate after crash on Monday evening, January 5, 2015
Emergency crews responded to a crash involving a Camaro, a semi and a toll gate on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike.
Bridgecreek Fire Department, Tuttle EMS and Mediflight were called to the scene at the Newcastle toll gate, Monday evening.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) also responded. The Mediflight landed on the roadway and transported one person from the scene to OU Medical Center. That person was listed in critical condition.
Northbound lanes were shut down at this location for at least two hours until about 10 p.m. Traffic was reportedly being diverted into Pike Pass lanes.
OHP officials said the Camaro was headed northbound at a high rate of speed, struck the back of a semi and struck a barrier before the driver was ejected 100 feet from the crash site at the toll plaza.
There was also damage to the toll plaza as a result of the crash. The beam that supports the east wall was struck.
