Dayton ,OH : Three years old girl hospitalized after Three vehicle Crash along SR 49 on Thursday ,May 7th 2015
A 3-year-old girl remained hospitalized tonight after a three-vehicle crash Thursday that killed her father and shut down south state Route 49 for more than three hours.
James Terrance Phelps Jr., 30, was identified today by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office as the victim killed after he crashed his black 2010 Nissan Maxima into a broken down tree trimming truck along the side of the highway near Little Richmond Road. Phelps was pronounced dead at the scene.
His young daughter suffered critical injuries in the crash. The 3-year-old was not in a car seat or buckled in and had to be cut out of the car, said Dayton police Sgt. Randy Beane. She was flown by CareFlight to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where her condition was not available tonight.
“I hope she pulls through and doesn’t have any serious injuries,” Beane said. “It’s sad she had to be involved in a crash like this.”
Phelps was traveling on south Ohio 49 when he struck one of two trucks pulled off onto the side of the road.
“It appears the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and probably lost control and hit the rear end of the truck that was disabled,” Beane said.
