Baton Rouge,LA : Bicyclist struck, killed in highway crash on December, Saturday 16th 2017
A 64-year-old bicyclist from Belle Rose died Saturday afternoon after a driver lost control of his vehicle and struck the man, Louisiana State Police spokesman Jesse LaGrange said.
Terry Sims, a Belle Rose resident, was traveling on LA 308 north of LA 70 when The driver, Acquindas Brown, 22, from Plattenville, ran off the side of the road in his 2015 Chevrolet Impala. Brown reportedly overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle, crossing the center line and striking Sims as his vehicle veered off-road.
Brown's vehicle overturned, and Malik Mills, 22, who was sitting unrestrained in Brown's passenger seat, was ejected. Brown suffered moderate injuries, and Mills suffered mild to major injuries. His second passenger, Jawauntez Patterson, 22, was restrained and suffered minor injuries and refused treatment on scene. Sims was pronounced dead on the scene.
A toxicology sample was taken from both Brown and Sims, although impairment is not expected to play a role in the crash.
