Concord, CA : Five-vehicle crash ties up Interstate 680 near Concord Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, September 23, 2014

A crash on northbound Interstate 680 near Concord Avenue trapped a driver in their car and tied up traffic Tuesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident occurred around 1:35 p.m. and involved a total of five vehicles, including a Nissan sedan that became pinned between the center divider and another truck, according to Officer John Fransen. Three people suffered minor injuries and a Sig alert was issued at 1:41 p.m. closing three lanes. The closure backed up traffic for miles as emergency crews tended to injured drivers and cleared debris from the roadway. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
