Ford County, KS : Children avoid injury when school bus is involved in three-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon, February 14, 2017
A Pennsylvania man was hurt, but several children avoided injury in a three-vehicle crash involving a school bus Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2001 Cadillac driven by Jose G. Soto-Gonzales, 30, Dodge City, was stopped on Lariat Way about a half-mile south of the U.S. 56 and U.S. 440 junction, facing east, at about 4:15 p.m.
At the same time, a 2010 Bluebird school bus was stopped facing west at Lariat Way on U.S. 56. As a 2016 Ram pickup driven by Jesse Stickell, 51, Pottsville, Pennsylvania, approached the intersection, Soto-Gonzales in the Cadillac attempted to cross U.S. 56. The pickup struck the Cadillac, rolled and entered the northeast ditch, and the Cadillac spun around and hit the school bus.
Soto-Gonzales was not hurt, but Stickwell was taken to Western Plains Medical Center with injuries.
Also escaping injury were the driver of the school bus, Wade S. Hampton, 64, Dodge City, and passengers Stephany Sanchez-Rojas, 4, Jennifer Ramos-Ordenez, 4, Ulises Rocha, 5, Edyn Lux-Jose, 4, Maria Lux-Jose, 5, Julian Anguiano-Fierro, 4, Scarlet Chin, 4, Aylin Romero-Caballero, 4, and Judith Soto-Morales. All of the children are from Dodge City.
