Martin County, FL : Six people injured in a multivehicle crash on Martin Highway at Boat Ramp Road on Wednesday morning, March 9, 2016
A multivehicle crash Wednesday morning on Martin Highway sent six people to nearby hospitals, said Doug Killane, Martin County Fire Rescue's bureau chief of fire prevention.
Five of those people have serious injuries, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
Terri Ann Hayslip, 43, of Palm City, was driving east on Martin Highway when the front of her Nissan Altima struck the back of a Nissan 350Z, causing the 350Z to hit the Chevy Colorado in front it. In a chain reaction, the Chevy then hit a Ford Explorer that was in front of it.
Hayslip did not realize traffic had stopped and could not avoid the collision, according to the FHP. Joshua Ray Obryant, 38 of Port St. Lucie, and Lori Susanne Hayslip, 11, of Palm City, were passengers in the Altima; neither Hayslip nor her passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
David Allen Mullin Jr., 61, of Port St. Lucie, was the driver of the Nissan 350Z; Jorge Luis Green, 45, of Port St. Lucie, was the driver of the Chevy Colorado, and Timi Lynn Streiter, 51, of Palm City, was the driver of the Ford Explorer.
The crash happened about 7:48 a.m. at Martin Highway and Boatramp Avenue. East and westbound lanes of Martin Highway were closed, causing heavy delays, Killane said.
Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky said the six hospitalized had nonlife-threatening injuries.
Killane said one of the injured was flown and fourth others were taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute. A sixth injured person was taken to Martin Medical Center.
