Galveston, TX : Two involved in causeway crash identified on February, Saturday 10th 2018

The Galveston Police Department on Monday identified the person killed in a two-car crash Saturday on the Galveston Causeway.

Kristian Smith, 21, of Houston, was killed in the 2:45 a.m. crash on the outbound side of the causeway. Rescuers extracted Smith alive from the car he was driving, but he died at a University of Texas Medical Branch hospital.

The crash appeared to be head-on, police said, but details about how that happened on the barrier-separated road have not yet been released.

Sheila Anderson, 34, of Alvin, also was injured in the crash. She was taken to a medical branch hospital, where she was in critical condition Sunday.

Her medical status was not immediately available Monday afternoon.

Anderson is an independent contractor who was on her way to Santa Fe to deliver Sunday editions of The Daily News when the crash occurred.

An investigation into the crash was still underway Monday and no charges had been filed, police said.
