Prosecutors in Mercer County say a man convicted of manslaughter deserves more time in prison because of multiple prior convictions.In August, 35-year old David Reasby of Bluefield was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the 2012 shooting death of 22-year old Derek Tabor – he was originally charged with murder.Reasby was back in court Monday as prosecutors seek additional time in prison for him, because they say he's a habitual offender.Prosecutors say Reasby has been convicted of four other felonies prior to the manslaughter conviction.Law states that if a defendant has two prior felony convictions and the third one involves violence, that person can be charged as a habitual offender.Reasby was asked by the Judge William Sadler Monday if he was the same David Deshawn Reasby named in those four prior alleged convictions. He admitted that he was. This exposes him to a possible life sentence.If sentenced as a habitual offender, Reasby would be eligible for parole after 15 years -- the same sentence he would have received had he been convicted on the murder charge.The possible sentence on the voluntary manslaughter charge is three to 15 years.
