Del City,OK : Truck bursts into flames after crashing into pump at Oklahoma gas station on September, Wednesday 6th 2017

A short pursuit led to a crash and a vehicle fire at a gas station.

It happened around midnight on Wednesday at the OnCue at the corner of S.E. 29th and Sooner Road.

"He was just released from the county jail last week, I believe, you know, for the same thing, stealing a car,” said Capt. Ted Kleber with the Del City Police Department.

Kleber is talking about 25-year-old George Tulowetske.

"He's common with us. He's been arrested six times for drugs, disorderly conduct, traffic warrants and, of course, the county has him for stealing cars,” Kleber said.

Now, another stolen vehicle can be added to the list.

That vehicle, a pick-up truck, was found at an apartment complex following a noise complaint.

"The noise complaint was him breaking into the truck, trying to get into the tool compartments and trying to a hold of the tools, and he had basically taken all the tools out of the truck and laid them out there on the front lawn,” Kleber said.

It wasn’t long before officers spotted him, which led to a chase.

However, it was a short one.

"He fled the area, went through the grassy area in front of the apartment complex, drove out in front of Willow Park,” Kleber said.

He then crashed into a gas pump at the nearby OnCue, and the truck burst into flames.

"There was an automatic pump shutoff. So, that saved the gas station there,” Kleber said.

After the crash, Tulowetske ran from the scene.

Fortunately, officers tracked him down a few hours later and took him into custody.

Kleber said they’re thankful because it could have been a lot worse.
