Dover, DE : Son of Ruth Ann Minner dies in crash near Milford on Friday, 23rd September 2016
The son of former Gov. Ruth Ann Minner died in a tow truck crash Friday evening on U.S. 113 just north of Milford.
The crash occurred at about 6:39 p.m., as Gary L. Ingram, 55, of Milford, was driving a 2012 Kenworth 999 flatbed tow truck south on Bay Road (U.S. 113) south of Cicada Lane, said Delaware State Police.
For an unknown reason, the tow truck gradually traveled off the west edge of the roadway where the right side mirror and right corner of the truck struck a steel sign. The truck continued traveling south and struck a group of trees, police said.
Ingram, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was treated at the scene by Kent County paramedics. He was then taken to Milford Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
Gov. Jack Markell issued this statement after Ingram's death:
"Along with so many people in our state, I have long admired the devotion that the Minners show to family and their commitment to helping others. Like his mother, Gary demonstrated a passion for service to his community and for improving the lives of Delawareans. He will be sorely missed. I join all Delawareans who are thinking of and praying for the family at this difficult time."
