Salisbury, NC : Man dies in Rowan County wreck early Wednesday morning July 2nd 2014

A man was killed and a woman injured in a traffic accident in Rowan County early Wednesday morning, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle wreck happened around 1:40 a.m. at 8740 Castor Road.

Officials said the car, being driven by Mandi Nicole Newton, ran off the road and hit a tree.

The passenger in the car, Philip Baity, was killed in the crash.

Newton was injured and taken to an area hospital, but her condition has not been released.

Charges are pending for Newton for DWI and felony death by vehicle, officials said.
