Fairmont, WV : One person injured following an ATV?accident near North Bunner Ridge Road on Wednesday, March 30, 2016

One person was transported to the hospital following an ATV?accident Wednesday.

Zachary Hager, 26, of Fairmont, was transported by HealthNet to Ruby Memorial Hospital following the?accident that occurred around 3:43 p.m. Wednesday near North Bunner Ridge Road, according to Marion County 911 Center dispatcher Matt Talerico.

The accident happened in a wooded area a couple miles off North Bunner Ridge Road, between North Bunner Ridge and Pride Ridge, said West Virginia State Police Sgt. Branham, the investigating officer of the incident.

The vehicle involved in the accident was a dirt bike that is classified as an ATV, Branham said.

Hager was riding the dirt bike up a hill when the accident happened, according to Branham.

“I guess the guy climbed a very steep embankment, lost his footing and rolled down the hill,” Branham said.

According to EMTs on the scene, Hager had a possible leg injury, Branham said.

Hager was wearing a helmet when the accident occurred, according to a witness to the accident and EMTs on the scene, Branham said.

The Marion County Rescue Squad had to access the scene of the accident by using ATVs, Branham said.

HealthNet was called to transport Hager to Ruby Memorial Hospital because of the amount of time it took to reach him, Branham said.

HealthNet landed at 5:20 p.m. near the Sagebrush Round-Up on Bunner Ridge Road. HealthNet lifted off with Hager at 5:44 p.m., according to the Marion County 911 log.

The Marion County Rescue Squad, Bunner Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and Winfield Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, according to Talerico. The West Virginia State Police is the investigating agency.
