Highfalls, N.C : NC man dies in hit-and-run crash in Moore County on Friday night, March 18, 2016

A young North Carolina man died in a hit and run crash on Friday night in Moore County south of Highfalls, officials say.

Matthew Tyler Phillips, age 24, of Archdale was hit by a vehicle just before midnight on Putnam Church Road off of NC Highway 22, according to the Aberdeen Times.

The victim had been visiting a house on Putnam Church Road and when people at the house noticed he was not there they began looking for him, officials said.

A short time later they found Phillips at the end of the driveway and called 911. Firefighters arrived to find Phillips lying in the middle of the road.

The vehicle that struck the victim did not stop at the scene, according to officials.

Phillips was from Trinity and was a graduate of Trinity High School, according to his Facebook profile. He worked for Archdale Millwork and was an avid fisherman, according to his social media profile.

Putnam Church Road was closed to traffic in both directions for about 90 minutes while the incident was investigated by law enforcement.

This accident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information on the vehicle or the driver that hit Phillips is urged to contact 911.

High Falls Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, NC State Medical Examiner’s Office, and the NC State Highway Patrol responded to the deadly crash.
