UPPER TOWNSHIP, NJ : An Atlantic County man was killed in a motorcycle accident on Friday, September 8, 2017

An Atlantic County man was killed in a motorcycle accident late Friday night, state police said.

Stephen Starke, 48, of Mays Landing was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Route 50 near Milepost 3.2 when the crash took place around 11:15 p.m., according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Lawrence Peele.

For an unknown reason, Starke went off the right side of the road, struck a metal sign and then hit a tree, Peele said.

Starke was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Peele said the roadway was shut down for about three hours for the investigation.
