Corning,CA : Gerber woman injured Wednesday in South Avenue collision on August, Wednesday 16th 2017
A Gerber woman was taken to Enloe Medical Center in Chico following a collision at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday that temporarily blocked South Avenue at the intersection with Hall Road in Corning.
Maria Del Carmen Cuevas, 48, had major injuries while the other driver, Robert Roy Calvert, 38, of Corning had minor injuries and declined medical care at the scene.
Cuevas was headed north on Hall Road and stopped her 2004 Honda Accord at the stop sign at the intersection with South Avenue. Calvert was headed east on South Avenue at the time. Cuevas failed to see Calvert’s 2004 Ford Explorer approaching the intersection and entered directly into the path of it, according to a California Highway Patrol press release issued Wednesday afternoon.
Traffic was temporarily restricted to one lane during the clean-up and to allow for the extrication of Cuevas, which took about 30 minutes, the release said.
Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be a contributing factor to the collision.
