Nowata, OK : Fort Carson soldier dies in crash in northeast Oklahoma on Saturday, October 11, 2014
A 21-year-old Fort Carson soldier died early Saturday in a two-car collision in northeastern Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
Dayton Beard, 21, was a passenger in a car that was eastbound about 4 a.m. on U.S. 60 about eight miles west of Nowata. The car veered across the center line on a curve and struck a westbound vehicle head-on. Beard died at the crash site, troopers said.
Fort Carson officials confirmed a death, but would release no details on Beard.
The driver of the eastbound car, Shirley McGee, 21, of South Coffeyville, was treated at a hospital in Bartlesville and released. Another passenger, Nicole Breyer, 21, of Lenapah, was admitted to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition, troopers said.
The driver of the westbound car, Jesse Jackson, 22, of Nowata, was treated at a hospital in Bartlesville and released.
McGee and Jackson were the only people wearing seat belts, troopers said.
