HAWAII, HI : A 36-year-old Grand Rapids native died in a tractor-trailer crash on May, Sunday, 14th 2017

A 36-year-old Grand Rapids native died Sunday in a tractor-trailer crash during Army training.

KITV4 reported that Sgt. Terrence Hinton died in the Sunday crash at the intersection of Daniel K. Inouye Highway and Mamalahoa Highway.

Hinton was a motor transport operator and enlisted in the Army in 2009. He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 and to Kuwait in 2014.

According to Stars and Stripes military publication, Hinton was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division based at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.

He was a passenger in a tractor-trailer driven by a 20-year-old fellow soldier when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it struck a guardrail before overturning in a culvert.
