Washtucna, WA : WSU student killed in two-vehicle car crash in southern Adams County on Sunday evening, January 8, 2017
A 20-year-old Washington Statue University student was killed in a head-on crash Sunday evening in southern Adams County.
Rachel Pomeroy, a junior at WSU, was driving east on state Highway 26 in a 2003 Acura when it was struck head-on by a 2016 Ford Explorer about 13 miles west of Washtucna, according to a Washington State Patrol news release. The cause of the crash is unknown, but drugs and alcohol were not involved. Pomeroy, of Snohomish, Wash., died at the scene.
The driver of the Explorer was not injured.
State Route 26 was closed for three hours and reopened at 9 p.m.
On Saturday, another WSU student died and three were injured in a crash on Interstate 90 west of Cle Elum in Kittitas County. According to WSU’s the Daily Evergreen, the students were returning to Pullman for spring classes to begin.
